The Value of US Silver Coins In Silver Bullion

Do You Have Treasue In Your Old Coins?

If you have read any financial news at all, you must realize the price of silver and gold is very strong this year. This rise has increased the interest in US silver coins, especially dimes, quarters, halves, and dollar coins minted on or before 1964. These were all 90% silver, and every $1 in face value of these coins contains about .715 of a troy ounce of silver!

Half dollars minted between 1965 and 1970 were .40 silver, and even some WWII nickels were actually .35 silver! A handful of these coins can be worth a lot more then the marked value.

Get an idea what that old jar of change is worth with the US Silver Coin Value Calculator. And learn more about the value of silver at this popular online blog.

We also found a good discussion of silver values here.

O.K. we had that little correction Momday on Gold and Silver....but c'mon!

If you really look at a 12 month (or even a six month) chart, that was barely a bleep. It's not time to panic at all!

I'm holdin'...and if it goes any lower, I'm shopping.

Enjoy holding physical precious metals like gold and silver.

Gold to the Moon Baby...Maybe

If you're a bull, you'll be happy to read this article:
http://www.resourceinvestor.com/pebble.asp?relid=18843

If you're a bear, you'll think it's nuts.

Read it anyway..food for thought.

From the article....hmmmm?
Gue calculated a ratio of 3 for illustration purposes, adding “this might sound crazy”:
Dow at 11,000 = gold at $3,668
Dow at 9,000 = gold at $3,000
Dow at 7,000 = gold at $2,333
Dow at 5,000 = gold at $1,667
Dow at 3,000 = gold at $1,000

Well, as I said, Ebay is a good marker of small quantities of precious metals (is that what I said?).

Anyway, I can't find an ounce of silver for less than $15 - that inlcudes shipping, and really maybe that's a pretty competitive price. Consider that the spot price is ALMOST $13.00 - and an ounce is a small quantity so it always fetches a quantity over spot. $15.00 probably better than you'd find at the coin store. I dunno' - haven't been out much.

When you bid, always look at the seller feedback and make sure it's mostly positive. Nobody can be posititve all the time - the cranks are out there - but even when I've had a small problem on Ebay as a buyer or seller, usually a little communication will work it out - and the feedback ends up positive. A lot of negs are bad news guys - so I'm saying - I wouldn't except more than 1 or 2 percent - especially if they're recent. If the positives are recent, and the negs are a year old - well, the seller may have been a newbie, changed his ways, or had some evil run of bad product. Ya Know...but don't forgive too many negs.

But as I said, forgive a small amount - 'cause some buyers or just nuts.

Ebay - It's not just for amateurs anymore!

Now how would Ebay - the online flea market - and the world of precious metal investors get mentioned in the same breath. 'Cause that's where joe public...they people that buy a bit of precious metals, say an ounce of gold or a ten ounce bar of silver, actually check the action.

Now Ebay can be shocking. I've seen silver bars go for under melt. Whoops. I've also seen crazed buyers pay three times what they could just pay at any coin dealer. That's what happens when you don't check around first.

Now how do you start researching before you finger hits the bid button? Well, or course, you should check the bullion quotes. If you're bidding on coins, waltz on over to pcgs or numismedia to browse going rates on U.S. coins. (keep in mind, those quotes are often for professionally graded coins, and if that's not what you're buying - beware).

Then check the completed items. See what similar purchases have trended towards in the last few days. To check completed items, you need an EBAY ID. It's free to get one, and lots of fun!

GET YOUR EBAY ID HERE!

Make sure the shipping cost is reasonable too. I've seen 1 ounce silver bars go for melt, but then have a 6.99 shipping fee tacked on. Unless you're going to turn around and sell with the same shipping fee, it's hard to make any money that way. Of course, the seller has to charge something for shipping unless the price is already built in the bid.
